Adjust Your Sails

Adjust Your Sails

“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.” William Arthur Ward

The winds of change are blowing pretty darn hard in our busy world these days.

Complaining about the pressure, or the workload, or the weather won’t do a damn thing to alleviate the pace with which we now must live.

Waiting for it to slow down or shift, well, it’s a waste of your time, and yelling about it is a waste of your energy.

The only proactive choice is to take advantage of the winds, whichever way they may blow.

Adjust your sails.

Breathe.

And recognize that any course you may set will hit a storm along the way, no matter how detailed your planning may have been.

Mother nature is bigger than us.

And usually gets her way.

So, let go of complaining and waiting, make adjustments, and keep on sailing.

And remember to pack some Dramamine.

“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.” Lao Tzu

When your people have the skills to communicate more effectively, they can connect more easily and collaborate more productively. Not only on the job, but also in life.

Communication, Connection, and Collaboration—the three “C’s”—are the cornerstones of all successful businesses. They are the result of Emotional Intelligence in action.

More details can be found in my recent best seller with co-author Jennifer Eggers:
Resilience: It’s Not About Bouncing Back

The power of resilience within organizations can transform an average company into a powerhouse. Yet, even in times of rapid disruptive change, there is no manual for building resilient organizations. This book is that manual.

“If you  want to build more resilience intentionally—personally and professionally—read this book.
