Peas First

Peas First

“Procrastination is like a credit card: it’s a lot of fun until you get the bill.” ~Christopher Parker

We’ve all heard it, time and again: “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.”

But what do you do when your today is so crammed, you can’t possibly get to everything you had hoped to accomplish?

Our tendency is to reach for the lowest hanging fruit: things that are easy, quick, simple. Whatever can be done now.

Checking things off our list makes us feel good about ourselves. An illusion of productivity.

Except, that leaves the more complicated, time-consuming tasks until the end to the day, when our energy and focus levels have lowered, and we push off until tomorrow what we didn’t accomplish today.

And the cycle repeats.

When prioritizing your daily “to do” list, remember something else you probably heard your parents say once upon a time: “No dessert until you finish your peas.”

Do the hard tasks first.

You may not enjoy peas, but dessert tastes better once you’ve finished them.

Communication, Connection, and Collaboration—the three “C’s”—are the cornerstones of all successful businesses. They are the result of Emotional Intelligence in action.

More details can be found in my recent best seller with co-author Jennifer Eggers:
Resilience: It’s Not About Bouncing Back

The power of resilience within organizations can transform an average company into a powerhouse. Yet, even in times of rapid disruptive change, there is no manual for building resilient organizations. This book is that manual.

“If you  want to build more resilience intentionally—personally and professionally—read this book.
